  shakira for law teaser.jpg
Synopsis:
Twenty-seven year old Ocean Hawthorne thought he’d known loss and pain when his twin sister Stormie died. It was his fault the world would no longer see her beautiful smile or hear her captivating laughter. The former world champion in the vicious world of MMA fighting thought he’d been through the worst and has now carried that guilt and pain with him since.

Then he met Livie Acosta. The moment he laid his eyes on the exotic beauty, he was hooked. In that split second of looking into her wild and hurt eyes, his heart began to beat again. He knew then that he would never be able to let her go… but was that the right thing for him to do? Because yet again, Ocean found himself surrounded by a familiar darkness, a pain so strong that even breathing hurt, and living felt impossible. He’d pushed too far in the effort to love and help her, and now… now he didn’t know if he’d ever see her again.

Lawrence Hawthorne has been through the ringer when it came to hurt and disappointment, but nothing could have prepared him for the possibility of losing Livie. He’d just found her and now—well, now he didn’t know what to think. To him, Livie was more than just a girl, more than just a friend. To Law, Livie was someone he needed to help and protect, even from herself, and he’d failed that simple task.

Will the Hawthorne cousins who have sworn to protect Livie survive her selfish act, or will they crumble, yet again?

The Prologue is in the HTML but here is both the Prologue and Chapter 1. Feel free to pick the one you want:
Prologue
Ocean
The tires of my Range Rover screeched outside as Liv took off, making my skin crawl. It was a given something wasn’tright with Liv, but this wasn’t her typical nervous breakdown behavior. No, this was much worse. I could feel it deep inside of me; the familiar feeling of my life spiraling out of control was beginning to take hold of me. When she asked me to let her go, there was so much more meaning behind those words. She wasn’t just having a panicattack; Liv was acting out of desperation, and I know exactly what people are capable of when they act out of desperation. Fuck this shit! If I was going to let her say goodbye to me, we were going down together!
“Law! Law, we need to go now! Where the hell are you?”
Walking around the maze of a studio,my nerves were unraveling with each passing second. Turning the corner, I punched the wall, my fist going straight through the dry wall.
“What the fuck asshole! I was taking a fucking piss. What the hell was that for?”
“We need to go. Something’s not right with Liv, and I’m not staying here. Socome with me or stay I don’t give a shit, but I’m leaving.”
He looked me up and down, then back to the hole I just put through the wall.
“Yeah, I’m coming with you. Head out, I’ll lock up the back and be right out.”
I turned around, walking away before he even finished his sentence. I needed Liv in my arms; I needed to see she was okay. The drive to our condo was the longest fucking drive ever. I jumped in my seat when my cell phone went off with Liv’s ringtone. I pulled it out quickly, answering it on the first ring.
“Baby, you okay? I’m sorry; I didn’t mean to get pissed. Baby?”
All I could make out were the haunting screams and cries coming out of Liv. Her voice was hoarse and strained as ifshe had been screaming for hours. I heard her say goodbye in between her screams and then a loud crash on the other end. My heart wanted to bust out of my chest and I wanted to fucking beat the shit out of Law for driving so fucking slow!
“FUCK LAW, DRIVE FASTER, GO GO GO!”
I said kicking the shit out of his dashboard.
The next turn Law took, the truck nearly tipped over. I punched the gate opener busting the gadget to shreds. As the gate started to open slow as fuck, I jumped out of the truck and took off running. The adrenaline, pain, fear, and hate shredding my veins open was afeeling I experienced not too long ago. They were the same feelings I had after my bike accident as I held my sisters dying body in my arms on the side of the road. I flew up the stairs, not seeing or feeling anything except for my need to get to Liv before I was too late. I couldn’t let her die too; I wouldn’t survive it.
Tears started pouring from my eyes on their own. When I reached our door, I kicked it open without a secondthought. The smell and the sight of blood knocked the little wind I had left in my lungs out of me. My body burned in its entirety as I took in in the site of Liv up against the wall on the floor cutting herself with a big ass piece of glass. When she pulled her wrist out in front of her, I snapped out of my shock, but was too slow. She dug the shard of glass deep into her wrist slicing upwards. When she got to her elbow, she turned white and fell over.
“No, baby no! Livie… Livie open your eyes. LAW CALL THE FUCKING AMBULANCE! Don’t leave me baby;please, I can’t fucking lose you too. LAW! I won’t make it Livie. Fuck you for doing this! I love you Livie, don’t leave me, please!”

CHAPTER ONE
Ocean
“Son, let me sit in with Livie, you need to go home.”
I didn’t even bother to move, look up, or even acknowledge my dad. Two weeks I’ve stayed here in this sickening too white, too bright, and too sanitized hospital room, waiting for Liv to wake up. I wasn’t about to leave now…for what? Besides, I didn’t have a home without her.
“Alright son, Layla should be up in a little bit to check on her pain meds and IV’s. I’m heading home, goodnight son. I love you Ocean.”
I nodded in his direction so he could get the hell out. I heard him sigh out loud as he made his way out. I still loved the old man, but there wasn’t shit anyone could do or say to me to get me to leave. I wasn’t leaving until Liv was awake. If it wasn’t for Law, I would still be wearing the bloody clothes from the same night I found her slicing her arm open in our condo. I closed my eyes as the vision of my last conversation with Liv, replayed in my mind. The room door snapped open along with my eyes to see who was coming in.
It was only Aunt Layla, so I slouched back in my chair. “Hey Ocean, I see you’re still standing guard.”
I looked at her briefly to acknowledge her presence. I never felt right completely disrespecting my Aunt. I think mainly because I knew she would kick my ass for being such a dick. “You could at least shave that god awful beard you have growing in, Ocean. You have the poor nurses fearing to step off the elevator during their shifts.”
I smiled inwardly. They were lucky I took time to shower.
“Fine! I will finish up and then leave. Do you need anything while I’m here?”
“No thanks Aunt Layla, I’m fine.”
“Bullshit, your fine. You forget I amyour cousin’s mother and your father’s sister too. When you Hawthorne menhurt it’s written all over you inside and out.”
I shifted in my chair refraining from wanting to tell her to do her job and then get the hell out. I’m thankful she took me shifting uncomfortably as a sign that I was about to snap. She worked quietly on Liv making sure her IV’s were still flowing well. She checked Liv’s vitals, redressed her wounds, and other stuff.
After the incident with the male nurse they sent in here when Liv was stabilized enough for her first sponge bath, Aunt Layla taught me how to do it myself. I nearly broke the guys neck when I saw the orange half-moon shaped bucket and sponge in his hands. For two weeks now, I was the one to bathe her, brush her hair, talk to her, and play music for her. I knew once she woke up I would never be the same but I wasn’t leaving until I saw those brown eyes look back at me one last time. Or so I told myself.
I had no intentions on leaving Liv for good, but I wasn’t in the best frame of mind to stay and help her. Her attempt to commit suicide was painful in itself because I love her; what hurts me the most was the fact that I wasn’t enough for her to keep from giving up. I promised her that if she drowned, I’d drown right along with her, and that was exactly what was happening. She gave up and let herself drown. Now I’m slowly letting myself sink to eventually reach the bottom to drown and die myself.
Aunt Layla finished up, not leaving until she felt Liv was as comfortable as possible. Last week she warned me that there was severe nerve damage done to Liv’s wrist and hand after she came out of surgery. I was okay with it, hell I’d be okay with it if they cut off her fucking arm. Just so long as I didn’t have to bury her like I did my sister. It was ten minutes past midnight andusually around this time I would turn on the playlist for Liv. I didn’t really care if she could hear it or not, but I couldn’t just sit here and wait for a miracle. I knew the music was doing something to her, because every time I played it, her heart rate would go up a little. It was a shot in the dark. Any longer seeing her stuck this way, I was sure I was on the brink of losing my mind. I picked my phone up from the side table unplugging it. I opened upthe playlist that was comprised of four songs for her, Glowing and Before the Worst by The Script; execute me by Medina, and living louder by The Cab.
I pressed play and watched the heart rate monitor. By the third verse of the first song, her heart rate went up theusual four beats per minute. I rested my head on the back of my chair and closed my eyes. I never really slept because I refused to miss anything, or be asleep when she woke up. Instead, I simply rested my eyes while listening and feeling for her to move.

My name is Melissa DeOlmos, an aspiring author and a newbie to the world of indie writing. I live in sunny side Palm Bay, Florida with my two lovely crazies ages five and two, along with my Law Enforcement champ of a husband. I could say that writing novels has been a passion that I've always pursued, but I can't. Writing for me has always been my own secret escape into a land of wonders and opportunities.

Filled with love and so much trouble, I sometimes wonder if I need medication for the stories that pop into my head. I have now decided to share my mystical mind and stories with the world so, hopefully, others may also find that little something extra they've been looking for within my stories.

Thank you and I hope you enjoy my books

“Selective/Memory”
By D D Lorenzo
Prologue/Capacity
It was perfect—at least, for this purpose. This was the location. That was, after all, what she had come to expect, wasn’t it? Perfection. Nothing more, nothing less, and it pleased her. An ocean view because he liked it, seclusion because she did. It wasn’t an enormous house, but would be adequate for her needs; she truly didn’t consider his. She had only picked the ocean view house due to the seclusion, and she could make him believe that she chose it for him. It was all an illusion, really—as were most things for her accommodation. The furnishings had arrived earlier in the week. She didn’t inconvenience herself for their arrival—there were people who handled that sort of thing—and she hated mingling with those that didn’t matter. Money took care of them and what they did to suit her. As she walked from room to room, she took in some of the mediocre choices she had made—all for his taste—so she could achieve her ultimate goal—him. How did that beach bitch ever stand the look of this shit? she thought as she wrinkled her nose in distaste at the overstuffed sofa and chairs in the living room. It was a bit more elegant a display than was in Declan’s home. Of course it would be—she was Marisol Franzi! Her taste was much better than Declan’s or his former plaything. That was evident to even the most mundane decorator. Walking through the kitchen, she snickered at the coffeemaker, thinking it almost blasé. Did he never think of cappuccino, espresso? Did the man even remember he had been all over the world? The kitchen looked adequate enough, but no matter, she wouldn’t be there long enough to think about it—and she certainly didn’t cook! The idea was appalling. As her stiletto heels made a clicking sound on the shiny hardwood stairs, Marisol ascended as a queen in a kingdom. The master bedroom suite at the top of the stairs held a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean, its iniquitous waters as black as the void in her soul. The dark night sky held not a single star, to spare her a flicker of hope in her malevolent beauty. An imposing full moon cast a sinister light into the room. It beckoned her to walk up to the large window, which could be seen from the massive bed, the wood expertly carved in the four posters. ♪ “Oh…the things you will see me do, Mr. Moon…” she said suggestively as she reached up, first one arm, then the other, behind her to unzip her dress. Letting it fall to the floor, Marisol made her way to the bed and crawled like a cat into the middle of its grand size as a contemptible shadow followed her from the window. Lying there, she stared out at the moon, reveling in the knowledge that she could hear nothing but the objectionable ocean, and that no one would be able to hear the screams and moans that would come from this house. The thoughts that crossed her mind gave her the most delicious sensation running through her veins. She closed her eyes to savor the mental pictures. She had been tolerant, compliant, and even passive until she felt she would scream, but for this, she had planned every small detail. She shivered with the intensity of joy that flooded her, knowing that her efforts would not be in vain, and the time was coming soon. She’d finally get what she had planned and waited for. Nothing—and no one—could stop her. No one ever could. When she had come to this country, and she, Marisol—THE supermodel—was created, they told her she’d never want for anything again—and they didn’t know how right they were.
She was invincible.
She had conquered everything.
She was a vencedor—a winner!

Author: Angelisa Stone
Genre: Contemporary New Adult Romance
Release Date: March 1, 2014

Synopsis:
“What’s the one thing you can’t go without?”
Tristan O'Donnell has money, women, and all the luxuries that cold hard cash can buy. Tristan's been sucking sunshine right from the monogrammed silver spoon his life was served up on since the day he was born. And quite frankly, he wouldn't want it any other way. He's his mother's pride and joy, his father's right-hand-man, and the envy of every guy around. All Tristan has to do is flash his million dollar smile, give his trademark wink, and he gets what he wants, when he wants, anytime he wants.
Leah Franchetti grinds her fingers to the bone; sculpting, painting, recreating treasures from trash—the very sentiment that defines her life. Her inventive, vindictive, lucrative, and seemingly unforgivable plan allowed her to shortcut her way into the life she always imagined, owning an art gallery, surrounding herself in the comfort of her passion and dreams.
When circumstances force Leah and Tristan to come face-to-face with the past and with Leah’s devious manipulation, truths come flooding forth, destroying those in the present and possibly jeopardizing both of their highly anticipated futures.
Can Tristan overcome Leah’s slander and deception—despite how dangerously close he comes to losing the one thing he can’t go without—money? Will Leah be forced to come clean, knowing she’ll have to live her life with the one thing she can’t go without—her dignity?

Excerpt:

Rushing out of Chet O’Donnell’s office, angrily and haughtily, I face-plant straight into a strong, hard chest, covered in a wool, cable-knit sweater, smelling of expensive cologne.  People always say that the sense of smell is the most powerful sense, triggering memories and feelings clearer than any of the other four senses combined.  Just one smell, one inhalation of that warm, sexy designer cologne and my insides burn, ignite with intense desire and longing.  Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.  No. No. No.
“I’m…I’m…I’m…” I stammer, backing up, dropping my head, and looking straight at the ground in humiliation.
“I’m…I gotta go,” I mumble, sidestepping out of his way, and heading straight for the elevator.  I push the button repeatedly, knowing damn well my actions won’t speed up the elevator’s arrival.
Tristan runs to catch me, just as I eye the stairwell and bolt for the door.  “Leah! Wait!” he yells; the “wait” is muffled by the sound of the door slamming behind me.  I run down only one flight of steps and escape onto the twentieth floor, knowing that Tristan O’Donnell would chase me the entire way down the stairs—if seeing and talking to me were his goals.  Tristan O’Donnell always gets what he wants.  Always.
Hoping that Tristan doesn’t check the video monitors, I walk down the hallway to the other set of stairs and down to the first floor, exiting O’Donnell Industries.  Once I hit the street, the winter sun reflecting off the snow burns my eyes.  I squint at the pain of the brightness, knowing the sting of my tears has nothing to do with the shining, searing light.

The first time I set eyes on her, she was wearing a worn out T-shirt and sweats. Her black hair, pulled up in a messy bun atop her head and she was staring right at me trying to reel her tongue back in her mouth. She was beautiful, and I’m not talking about your typical aesthetic beautiful, I’m talking about real beauty. The kind that’s fresh faced, wholesome and with a body of curves. For the first time in a long time I feel that twinge of humanity flicker in my empty soul.
