The Game Changer (The Perfect Game, #2)

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Jack & Cassie's story continues in the follow up to the Best Selling book, The Perfect Game.

Thrust into the spotlight, Cassie must learn how to navigate the waters of this sometimes unforgiving and cruel world. It's a lifestyle that makes you question your happiness and sanity as the past is never truly far behind.

Excerpt:

I closed my eyes, drinking in his vow. Part of me cringed, acknowledging the vulnerability that coursed within me. I needed to be stronger than this. But as much as I wanted to believe that Jack's mistake with Chrystle was a one time major screw up, I’d be lying to myself if I said I wasn’t fearful.
I was.

And I wasn’t sure how not to be.

“Do you believe me?” he asked, his expression filled with worry.
I fought back the tears that formed in my eyes, “I want to.” I longed to bottle my anxiety up and put it on a shelf where it only came out for special occasions, but I didn’t know how. Right now it lived on the outside of my skin, like an extra layer of warmth I couldn’t shed no matter how hot I became. My emotions had taken full control over every other part of me. I’d become victim to my own insecurities.

“I’ll show you,” his forehead pressed against mine as he continued. “I’ll never lose you again.”

“What if I want to be lost?” I teased with a serious tone and watched as he pulled his head from mine.
“I won’t let you.”

“You won’t let me?” I mocked, secretly loving the way he wanted me.
Jesus Cassie, you’re a fucking nutcase right now. Pick an emotion. Pretend like you’re in charge here.
“No. I won’t let you. End of discussion,” his mouth remained stoic.
“That wasn’t really what one would consider a discussion.”

“Because there’s nothing to discuss. I’m not leaving you ever again. And you’re not leaving me. No matter how pissed off I make you, or how frustrated. I fucking love you and I’m not going anywhere.”
I attempted to fight back the smile that formed. “And I love you. But really, if you ever cheat on me again I’ll cut your nuts off and hang them from the Empire State Building.”

Biography

J. Sterling
J. Sterling

I got fired from my last job.

It's true.

I know you're sitting there thinking, "Jenn, how could anyone in their right mind fire someone as amazing and awesome as you are???" And i'd love to give you a good reason, but the truth is... being This! Awesome! is clearly very scary to other less awesome people.  :)

So I said screw them and started writing my first book. And you know what I realized? Writing books that mean something to me is a million times better than working my ass off for someone who doesn't really care about anything other than the bottom line.

My soul feels more satisfied.
My heart, more full.

So thank you for reading, loving and recommending the stories I write.
I think you're awesome- and not only am I not scared of other awesome people, I want them on my team!

Jen's Review -

I have been waiting a long time for this book - the only disappointment I had was that Jen Sterling didn't take them to the Withering Storm concert!!!!
It mentioned that Jack was good friends with Jake, and he was taking Kitten to the concert. She was excited .... but we didn't get to experience that with them! :(

But this book was great - assuming you've read The Perfect Game - you know that Jack and Cassie have had their ups and downs, and back up and back down .. then we got left with the perfect cliffhanger! AHH!

But Jen Sterling wasn't even supposed to write this book - she said so at the end of this book. But I'm SO Glad she did :)

The book takes off right as the first book leaves off - Cassie opens the door and there is Jack standing there.. Of course she takes him back!!!

They jump in each others arms and go all out!
But the next morning - Cassie has questions. She doesn't want to ask, but she knows they can never move on if she doesn't know.

Her first question - what the hell too him so long to get back to her!!! This was 6 months after they broke up!

Laying in bed, Jack starts to tell her his story - about Chrystal fighting the annulment, and Jack's intentions of being honorable by not begging for Cassie to take him back while he's still married -

Cassie went through and listened to his story , forgiving him a little more and more and finally understanding where things went wrong.

Now that everything is ok - Jack is now playing for the Mets - he's home where he belongs.. with his Kitten.

And the life of professional Ball player in New York is great! But being the girlfriend of said professional Ballplayer in New York... kind of sucks!
Cassie gets full knowledge of how mean the press and fans and even the other wives of the same team's players all treat her.
The tabloids and the online websites really start to get to her - and she snaps!
Trying to keep things from Jack, since he's stressed enough about trying to prove that he's sorry and will never hurt her again, she's stuck with all the heat that everyone is giving her and she doesn't know how to deal with it.

The story was great! I love how devoted Jack is to Cassie. I love how determined he is to prove it to her. And Cassie - she's a sweetie, but she really needs to learn to lean on Jack a little more :)

Great ending - I really am curious about Melissa and Dean - I'm hoping that Jen Sterling might be able to give us another story she doesn't know she needs to write :D
