Take my Heart Guest Post & Giveaway

Take My Heart by Marie Higgins

Mercedes Maxwell’s sister’s last wish was for Mercedes to find evidence against Kat’s husband, William Braxton, and have him hung as a traitor to the crown. Mercedes isn’t naïve when it comes to capturing traitors, because her own deceased husband had once been an agent for the King when they lived in England.

When she meets William Braxton for the first time, all is not as it seems. Portraying her twin, Mercedes knows this is the only way to get close enough to William to discover his secrets. What she finds along the way are little surprises she hadn’t counted on, especially when she begins to give her heart to a man who may be a spy against the crown.

BEST MAIN CHARACTER TRAITS :                                                                                                                          What traits do you think make the best main character and is this based on your own personality or someone you know?

This question was thrown at me as the topic for this blog.  When I read the question, my first response was to…LAUGH, hysterically…out loud!
For those of you how know me personally, you’ll know how much I love to joke around…how crazy I can be…and how I LOVE to make others laugh.  I’m very silly at times, and I blame my parents for that.  So if you know me, and you’ve read some of my stories, you’ll know that from time to time, I like to have my characters joke around…be crazy…and make each other laugh. And yes, be silly.
However… “Take My Heart” was my first serious romance.  I’m trying to remember if I wrote any funny parts at all…or even tried to make the reader laugh.  I honestly don’t think I did.  So to answer this question would be NO, the main characters in “Take My Heart” are not anything like me at all.
On the other hand, I’m a headstrong woman and I don’t take crap from anyone.  My husband says it’s because I’m a Taurus, but I remember there was a time in my life when I was as timid as a mouse and my own shadow frightened me.  Yet, all of my heroines are headstrong women, especially the heroine in “Take My Heart”.  So then perhaps I do use some of my personality in my heroines.  Oh yeah…and my heroine is a brunette—and I’m a brunette.  lol
As for my heroes… They MUST be tall, dark, and handsome…and built VERY WELL!  No mousy dudes for me!  I’ve had readers ask if I fashion my heroes after my husband.  Well, although he is tall, handsome, and has muscles (mainly table-muscle…heehee), he is blond.  I seldom have blond heroes.  Usually my heroes start out cocky, and my husband was never cocky.  My heroes start out to be know-it-alls most of the time, and my husband is not like that.  Of course by now he knows that I know it all. hahahaha
My heroes MUST me funny.  They MUST have a good sense of humor or else how are they going to fall in love with the headstrong heroines?  Right?
And above all, my heroes MUST be romantic.  (I won’t add a comparison with husband right here, for fear someone is lacking… **whistles innocently**)
So to answer this question about what are the best traits in a character… I think I covered it clearly, haven’t I? (snickers)

I can hear your voice loud and clear in this post, Marie! Your book sounds fabulous! And so do your character traits. We have some similar ones--I love a hero who is tall, dark and very handsome. Great post!
