Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Obsidian (Lux, #1)Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

WOW! This book seemed SO MUCH more detailed than the first book - I really enjoyed this one . A LOT!

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don't kill him first, that is

I loved Daemon in the first book - he seemed so ... possessive towards Dawson and Dee - and in this book, we learn why.

I wasn't too pleased about not having Daemon's POV in this book, there is a bonus part at the end of the book, but still, would have been nice to see his POV - but then again, I think maybe it's a good thing we didn't...

Getting into Daemon's head could have been scary :)

So we start off with Katy moving in to her new house with her mom. They're trying to get over her dad's death, and this move seems to be the one thing her mom needed the most. And Katy had to agree.

Katy's mom wanted her out of the house, when she pulled up from work, she had spied the new neighbors, kids around Katy's age. So she did what she could to get her to go next door and make friends.

Katy wasn't a shy girl, but she wasn't an outgoing person either. But she was new, and didn't want to start her senior year being "the new kid" and not knowing anyone.
So she went next door to ask for directions to the closest grocery store.

When Daemon opened the door, shirtless and in a bad mood, Katy didn’t know what to think. He looked so... yummy. But when he asked if he could help her. no sound came out of her mouth. She just stood there staring at him.
She could feel his annoyance but she still couldn't say anything. Finally when she did start to ask for directions, she started to ramble. but he kept cutting her off.
She was getting annoyed. She turned around and stocked off, but not before he called out to her. She didn't want him to see how badly he upset her, so she didn't turn around. But he gave her the directions anyways.

When she got to the story, some of her anger had died down, but she was still frustrated.
When she heard her name being called, she was startled to see a beautiful girl her own age approaching her.

Dee was so excited to finally meet katy. A real good chance at having a Human friend. Someone that was friendly and happy to be around. Unlike her brother. She loved Daemon and she liked Adam, but Ash and Andrew were not her friends. Dee craved for attention, and she just knew she and Katy were going to become really good friends.

That is until Katy decided that her brother was a jerk. Well of course Daemon was a jerk, it was all she could do to keep Katy from running off because of him.

When Katy was outside washing her car, trying to get those hard to reach places, she was shocked to see Daemon walk up. Especially after he was so rude to her out in the garden the other day. But when he started to help her with her car, she got really suspicious.

According to Dee, he needed to "make nice" with her and apologize. HA! Katy figured it out real quickly. He wasn't here because he was sorry, he was here because Dee was making him.

it seems that Dee had hidden Daemon's keys before she left town, and the only way to get them back was to be nice to Katy. So Daemon decided it was time to take Katy swimming.
But Katy didn't want a pity date. but when Daemon started playing hardball when Katy's mom approached, Katy didn't have much of a choice. She wsa going swimming with Daemon..

When they got to the Lake, they were still going at it. I loved their verbal abuse towards each other. SO funny!

When they finally got in the water, Katy swam to the rocks in the middle, got out and started to relax. When she opened her eyes, she realized Daemon wasn't anywhere around. Did he leave her? She would have heard him getting out of the water..

Where did he go? A few mins passed and she still couldn't see him.. after a good 10 mins she started to panic, screaming out his name trying to see if he was still under the water.

When he surfaced, she was beyond freaked out.. and Daemon did everything he could to calm her down. After all, it wasn't HIS fault if she didn't see him come up for air - there is no way anyone could hold their breath under water that long..

But Katy wasn't so sure she was imaging things.

Little things here and there started to add up, and she got more and more curious about the rumors going around.

But most of all, she and Daemon were hitting heads all the time. His attitude was always running hot and cold. she couldn't tell what mood he was going to hit next. And she hated herself for being drawn to him. But no matter how big of a jerk Daemon was, she and Dee were still best friends.

I really loved this book. There was a LOT more details about the Luxren species and the Arums this time around.

And the ending wasn't too bad either :)

off to finally read ONYX :)
