Promises by Marie Sexton

Promises (Coda Books, #1)Promises by Marie Sexton

M/M Romance Contemporary
Finishing the book today :)

What can I say? It’s books like these that really make M/M books worth reading

Jared Thomas has lived his whole life in the small mountain town of Coda, Colorado. He can't imagine living anywhere else. Unfortunately, the only other gay man in town is twice his age and used to be his teacher, so Jared is resigned to spending his life alone. Until Matt Richards walks into his life, that is. Matt has just been hired by the Coda Police Department, and he and Jared immediately become friends. Matt claims he is straight, but for Jared, having a sexy friend like Matt is way too tempting. Facing Matt's affair with a local woman, his disapproving family, and harassment from Matt's co-workers, Jared fears they'll never find a way to be together-if he can even convince Matt to try

Jared is a lonely man. He has his brother, sister in law and his mom. But there was no one in Coda Colorado that was gay, unless you count the 60 year old band teacher that taught Jared when he was in high school 15 years ago.
So Jared had excepted that his life was exactly as it was.

That is until Matt showed up asking about Lizzie’s jeep for sale. Jared took Matt for a test drive and learned that Matt just moved to town and was a cop.
They spoke freely and easily to each other, and became friends in an instant.

Matt asked Jared out for a drink and dinner, but Jared had already made plans with Lizzie for dinner. But Lizzie jumped right in and invited Matt along.

Things at dinner were going great. The whole family got along with Matt. Everyone couldn’t help but think that he was interested in Jared. That is everyone except Jared.
When Jared asked if he was dating anyone, Matt says No. Ever been married? Again, No, are you gay? Matt laughs hard and says No way,

So Jared knew Matt was straight, and he knew he didn’t have a shot. But he still liked Matt, they were great friends, and if it was a friendship Matt wanted, it was a friendship Jared would give him.

And that’s what they did. They became friends. Matt caught hell from the people he worked with about hanging out with a gay guy. He denied he was gay to everyone, and ignored all the name calling and hassles they were throwing at him daily. But each night after work, he would go hang out with Jared.

They would go out for pizza, or hang out and watch TV. Pretty soon things became so casual and comfortable, Matt didn’t even realize it when he started running his fingers through Jared’s hair.
Jared of course felt it, but was afraid to say anything about it… it became common to both Matt and Jared.

Then it was Jared’s birthday.. They had a nice dinner at Lizzie’s house, then they went back to Jared’s house.
Jared was tired of feeling the feelings he was feeling for Matt. He knew Matt was starting to feel something as well, so when Matt came into the kitchen, and leaned up against Jared’s back, Jared started getting confused.  Was Matt Straight? Or was he hitting on him??

This was a really cute story. I loved how both Matt and Jared were strong men. Nothing flamboyant at all. There was no stereotype of Jared being gay.  He  was athletic, loved sports and strong both physically and emotionally. But he wasn’t perfect either.
And neither was Matt. But these two clicked really well together. They became fast friends with a lot in common.

Recommend this to those that love a great Romantic Story J
