Avoiding Series by K.A. Linde - Jen's Reviews

Note from Jen before reading on -
Today is the release day for Avoiding Responcibility (book #2)  How did I get it before now? The book was taken off the shelves sometime ago by the author because she decided to re-write some things in the story - I have not read the re-write yet, but I have read the one before it. What is the difference?
This is what she said on Facebook ...

"Have you made significant changes to Avoiding REsponsibility since it was up online at fictionpress.com?

The Answer is "YES! YES! YES!
I have changed it! And it's all for the better! I've added a bunch of new scenes to the story and a steamy new sex scene... you're not going to want to miss it!

WELL I enjoyed it the first time, so I"m tempted to buy this new verson and re-read the whole series!
I'll let you know when I do!

Avoiding Commitment
(Avoiding book #1)

Jack and Lexi never had a typical relationship. After 2 years without speaking, she receives a phone call that changes everything. He unexpectedly asks her to convince the new girl, Bekah, that he's ready to commit. Jack is calling now after everything they had been through because there is another woman. She can't believe it. Follow Lexi in this heart wrenching drama as she relives her past relationship, or lack thereof, with Jack, and not just in her own mind, but to his fiance-to-be. Throw in Bekah's hot brother who always seems to be in the right place at the right time, a past with more secrets to unravel than you can even imagine, and you get a recipe for disaster. Find out what happens to Lexi as she travels to Atlanta to get the closure she so desperately desires from Jack, and how the bumps of life seem to keep getting in the way

Jen's Review

I'm not sure if I hated this book or loved it... there was a lot of things that bothered me, mostly because I'm not a huge fan of selfish people who cheat on people they supposedly love, and my personal feelings are "once a cheater, always a cheater" but this book really has a way of pulling you in.

Jack and Lexie have a history. 6 years of wanting to be together, and yet, something was always in the way. When Lexie first spotted Jack at a coffee shop while she was working on her homework for her collage classes, she couldn't get him out of her mind.
Her good friend Olivia took it upon herself to invite jack to a theater production, and meet up with Lexie.
Things were awkward and shy at first, but just as they were about to part their ways, Jack called back asking to see her again.

And so it begins...
When Lexie finds out that Jack has a girlfriend after they've dated a few times, Lexie couldn't believe it. So they go their separate ways.

A few months later, they bump into each other again, but this time, Lexie has a steady boyfriend - But Jack just can't seem to care about him enough, and Lexie feels the draw that pulls her to Jack.

Guilt and lies pile up, but they go their separate ways again.. And so this becomes the pattern of their lives.
For some reason, Fate keeps getting them back together, and yet, always at the wrong time.

It was like reading 2 different books though, because this switched back and forth from past to present.

In the Present, Jack is with another girl, Beckah, and Beckah is very serious about Jack, and wants to meet up with his ex girlfriends to find out why they broke up with Jack.

So after a year and a half, Jack calls up Lexie to ask her to come back to Atlanta to talk to his girlfriend.
Lexie couldn't' do it, but her best friend Chyna convinced her that she needed the closure from Jack so she could move on with her life.

It was a pretty good story, I am still not sure how I feel about it, but I'm going to read the next book anyways. I do like Lexie as a person, and I think she finally is seeing things in a different light. I'd like to see what happens to her in the next book. Is the past going to keep coming up and biting her in the behind? Or will things finally iron themselves out??

Avoiding Responsibility (Avoiding - book #2)

Lexi has finally given up her once destructive relationships and moved onto bigger and better things with a sexy new man in town. Just when she is starting to figure it out with him, her world is tilted once again with a phone call from none other than Ramsey Bridges. A year after his entrance into her life, Ramsey is trying to make amends and does the one thing she never expects—invites her to Jack's wedding. The wedding she had evaded at all costs. But no matter what she does, Lexi can't seem to escape her past with Jack. But does she really want to? Despite the explosive chemistry between Lexi and Ramsey, she is skeptical about trusting him after everything that has happened. When things are amiss with him, she starts questioning his motives. Can Ramsey be the one to remove Jack from Lexi's life permanently or should she move on with her blossoming new life?

Jen's Review

Now I feel bad for only giving the first book 3 stars :) I wasn't too happy with the ending, ok I hated it - I'm not a huge fan of Jack's, but in this book, Lexie grows up, she realized what went wrong with Jack, and she decided to move on.

Ramsey was an Awesome choice! Although I thought it was pretty strange that she found out through Bekah that Ramsey only played her, but Lexie seemed to have forgiven him.

I was more involved in the flashbacks than I was in the wedding preparations :)

The book starts off with Ramsey calling Lexie and begging her to go to the wedding. Lexie had done EVERYTHING she could not to even THINK of the wedding that was coming up. She didn't want to know the when or where, but when Ramsey came to New York to visit Lexie, and was called away in the middle of the night... interrupting them, she couldn't let it go as to WHY he was being so crypt. Why he wouldn't tell her where he was running off to in the middle of the night.

That is until he let her tag along. He knew she was going to be pissed, but yeah, it served her right.
Getting to the club where she ran into Seth, she knew right away what had happened. The guys wanted Ramsey at Jack's bachelor party, and when Jack saw Lexie, as drunk as he was, he begged for Lexie to come to his wedding.

Lexie thought about it, and had actually thought it would be a good idea to go (Was she CRAZY!?!?!)

Gah! I love Chyna! She's such a wonderful friend and she knows what's best for Lexie, so yes, when she told Lexie that she was just looking for punishment, I had to cheer her on.

We flash back to the past about Ramsey calling Lexie and how they started dating and getting serious. Lexie started learning more and more about Ramsey's past. And even thought Lexie had a past she was ashamed of with Jack, Ramsey's past was starting to bug her.

Flashing back to the present, and back to the past. It's like reading Two very different stories. I loved the way the author did this.
even though I was reading about them getting ready for the upcoming wedding, I still cried during a flashback when things started going wrong again.
Lexie was trying SO HARD to be honest and happy, and then PARKER showed up!!

WOW! I was just speechless about Parker's involvement :)

Like I said, great book - I really enjoyed reading this one a LOT better than the first one , but I can see how the first one was really necessary for this book to take place, So I'm going to raise the stars from 3 to 4 for the first book :)
