Captive in the Dark by C.J. Roberts

Captive in the Dark (The Dark Duet, #1)Captive in the Dark by CJ Roberts
BOOK ONE OF THE DARK DUET:
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

WARNING: This book contains very disturbing situations, dubious consent, strong language, and graphic violence

Caleb is a man with a singular interest in revenge. Kidnapped as a young boy and sold into slavery by a power-hungry mobster, he has thought of nothing but vengeance. For twelve years he has immersed himself in the world of pleasure slaves searching for the one man he holds ultimately responsible. Finally, the architect of his suffering has emerged with a new identity, but not a new nature. If Caleb is to get close enough to strike, he must become the very thing he abhors and kidnap a beautiful girl to train her to be all that he once was.

Eighteen-year-old Olivia Ruiz has just woken up in a strange place. Blindfolded and bound, there is only a calm male voice to welcome her. His name is Caleb, though he demands to be called Master. Olivia is young, beautiful, naïve and willful to a fault. She has a dark sensuality that cannot be hidden or denied, though she tries to accomplish both. Although she is frightened by the strong, sadistic, and arrogant man who holds her prisoner, what keeps Olivia awake in the dark is her unwelcome attraction to him.

Jen's Review
I wanted to hate this book! I really did - Actually not the book, I wanted to hate Caleb - Seriously, that is one messed up guy! But can you blame him?? Yes... I'm sure his life could have been different, if it wasn't for being kidnapped at such a young age and being throwing into Hell. Beaten, raped, starved, beaten again , the poor kid did whatever he could to survive, even if it meant turning on others like him.

Broke my heart - and now all Caleb wanted was revenge. He's been preparing for years to bring down the guy who was responsible for the way he is now, and his friend Rafiq, the only person in the world who showed him any kind of friendship was after the same man. And there is only one way to get to him.

The book starts off with Olivia/Livvy sitting at her bus stop waiting for her school bus, Caleb is watching her from across the street. This American girl will go far in the Pleasure Slave auction, and he was going to train her into submissive. Once he sold her, he will be able to find the guy they were trying to find (I can't find his name to spell it right)

When Livvy woke up, she was in the dark, with just a night light in the bathroom. She felt heavy and drugged. And she didn't know where she was.

She was kidnapped. And that didn't sit well with her. Sure Livvy was a shy and easy going girl. But she knew how to survive.

So when "master" walked into the room, she didn't hesitate to fight back.

That is until he started to beat her down.
He only wanted her to listen to him. Do as she was told. Fighting back would be punished. She learned quickly.

This book isn't for the weak of heart. If you're looking for a lovey dovey romance book, I'm not sure if this is for you. Yes Caleb finds he has feelings for his Kitten, and Livvy is scared of him, but she's not broken.. and she has a plan.

Juls Review

Olivia aka collateral damage. Her life is one bad thing after another and she just cant win. I think thats why when she found out why she was kidnapped she was willing to play the part because she kinda had a say in the final outcome.

Caleb aka abductor. Revenge is the only thing on his mind but when his cracked heart sees Olivia it starts to slowly mend. the caring and softer side of him is foreign but he allows it, until the dreaded text comes in.
He wants to do right by the person who saved him yet doesnt want his new found whatever she is to him, he doesnt want to let go but knows he has to.

At first i didnt feel the connection with the characters. i didnt want to really. But towards the end I wanted more for them both. both to heal physically and mentally and both to find love but time is running out.
